Pastors Dan & Abby Shaffer

Dan & Abby Shaffer are Windber natives who have a heart for their hometown.

Married in 2008, Dan and Abby have been serving the Laurel Highlands in a number of ways.

Dan has been a pastor and youth pastor for over 20 years, serving at Camp Harmony and a number of churches in Johnstown.  Abby is a 3rd generation minister with a heart for the Rummel Church family.

We are excited to serve Windber and can’t wait to see what God has in store for us!

Our Core Beliefs

We are committed to living out Jesus’ commands by always reaching forward through:

Worshiping God

We worship God through applicable sermons as we connect God’s Word within our daily life. Generally, we stand to sing and to listen to God’s Word. We sit for prayer, sermons, and the sharing of joys and concerns. Silence is usually kept in our primary worship. However, we are not a quiet church! We are often lively and the congregation is invited to share joys and concerns each Sunday.

Reaching Out to Help Others

We often lend a hand to help others in our congregation and community through acts of service including Harvest Home, Operation Shoebox, Mom’s House, Relay for Life, CROP Walk, Girl Scouts, Daffodil Days, and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile.

Spreading the Good News

We openly witness Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior through activities like Child Evangelism, Camp Harmony, World Mission Projects, and Community Events.

Growing to be Like Jesus
Growing to be Like Jesus

We provide Christian education opportunities for all ages through activities like Kids Club, Youth Class, Evening Bible Study, and Bible School.

Fellowshipping as Family

As a congregation we enjoy activities such as fellowship groups, youth groups church picnics, coved dish meals, and monthly breakfasts

Digging Deeper: The Essential Beliefs of Christianity

The following list is definitely not the be all and end all of our Christian faith, but it gives a good understanding of some of the basics.

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us. Human authors, under the supernatural guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspires it, it is the truth without error.

God

We believe there is one God who is the creator and ruler of the universe. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, & the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, and His bodily resurrection from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death, His miracles, His ascension into heaven, and His return to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with the power to live a Godly life and understand spiritual truth. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved.

Human Beings

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. All people were born marred by a state of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This state and its resulting behaviors separate people from God. That separation will be eternal in a place called Hell unless all people are born-again by the spirit of God.

Salvation

Salvation is initiated by God and is a free gift to all who personally accept it. Once we accept Jesus Christ as our personal savior we are assured of spending eternity in heaven with God. We are saved by faith, and not by our own self-improvement or good works.

Church

The Church is the community, and relationship building aspect of God’s plan for the world. We exist to be a part of each other’s lives, show love, compassion, share truth, hold each other accountable, demonstrate grace, and so much more.  We are to show the light of Christ to the world.
